A Queensland sailor stranded off the coast of South Australia for 24 hours has just been rescued

Good evening, alone injured sailor stranded for close to 24 hours in dangerous seas west of Kangaroo Island has just been winched to safety. 22 year old Xavier Doa has been sailing

for 65 days on a mission to beat a world record, but then his boat started taking on water. A small yacht stranded at sea, a cargo ship closing in on the vessel, preparing to rescue

sailor 22 year old Xavier Doa who was attempting to break a world record just 24 hours ago. Hey guys, welcome back to another episode of The Southern Ocean in Little Boat. It is fruity outside.

His mission to become the youngest person to circumnavigate the country on the smallest boat in record time, taking a treacherous turn when all communication was lost yesterday afternoon. This video taken just days ago showing just how perilous the conditions were.

And I'll be strapping in for a very, very rough, very cold night. Xavier's spent 65 days at sea, starting his voyage from the Gold Coast back in May, sailing north for 10 days, then continuing across the top end and down the west coast before running

into trouble in the Great Australian Bight. Facing conditions and we're talking mountainous seas and really big wind and you know he did have a collision with an unidentified floating object as well and he's obviously injured

himself and the boat is taking on water. An emergency signal was issued from his vessel just before 5pm, about 630km west of Kangaroo Island. Two rescue aircraft were deployed from Perth and Melbourne and two merchant vessels

also diverted. With winds estimated at 110km an hour and waves up to 9m high, it's a risk Xavier saw coming and has experienced before. It's a touch hard to navigate out here when you can't actually sail.

Strong winds and huge waves tearing apart his yacht just last month, forcing him to dock in Fremantle for repairs before he was able to set sail again. Bound for South Australian waters he was expecting to be treacherous.

Big low pressure systems in the Southern Ocean and they were renowned around the world for being the most dangerous and difficult to conquer. The merchant vessel bound for Indonesia rescued Xavier around 4 .30pm this afternoon. Wild weather

meant it took three attempts to winch him to safety. Xavier is right now on board that vessel receiving a medical examination with plans to bring him to shore as soon as possible.
